Manual Therapy

manual therapy refers to…

  • Joint Manipulation using a high speed, low force thrust on one joint at the time, in order to stretch paraspinal muscles and their muscle spindles, which are proprioceptive sensors in the horses body

  • Joint Mobilisation which involves the rhythmical application of movement of one or more joints at the time. It is performed at a pace that is comfortable for the horse.

Flexible Taping (Kinesiology Taping)

applying elastic tapes to support the primary treatment

The effect produced by the Flexible Taping depends on the tissue problem and the type of tape application.

General effects are:

  • Balancing of muscle tone and improvement of fascial functionality

  • Stimulation of blood and lymph flow

  • Positive effects on the horses proprioceptive awareness

Laser Therapy (SpectraVET )

Laser Therapy is a phototherapy using low intensity laser light to modulate biological processes. By controlling the amount of light and how it is delivered into the tissue, I can then control the photochemical processes taking place in living tissue to produce the desired therapeutic outcome.

Laser Therapy has been shown to be effective in, but not limited to, the treatment of: wounds, ligament, tendon and joint injuries, myofascial trigger points and deep tissue acupuncture points, haematomas .

Dry Needling

A complementary treatment of myofascial trigger points using sterile acupuncture needles to reduce the tension in painful skeletal muscles.

In contrast to Acupuncture, which is an extremely complex healing method using points, which are linked to a system of meridians, Dry Needling places the needles near or directly into the trigger points in order to specifically treat the myofascial pain.
