Education & Seminars

All seminars/workshops are assisted by Nicolett’s own riding horses ‘Tinks’, ‘Tyson’ and ‘Spot On’.

Equine model ‘Lester’ then allows seminar participants to look beyond the horses skin, a standing skeleton who together with ‘Ted’ and ‘Polly the pony’ give a valuable, look into the remarkable design of the horses body. Nicolett is available to discuss functional anatomy and biomechanics as well as asymmetry issues and understanding your horses back, a popular seminar is the practical workshop on massage for horse owners.

The seminars are suitable for… Pony Clubs, Adult Riding Clubs and Young Rider and High Performance Camps

Sharing knowledge…

Nicolett utilises her recently Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHighE) to deliver an array of comprehensive seminar and clinics. Some are delivered in collaboration with Veterinary specialists such as Dr Sarah Daly and coaches such as Andrea Raves who is a holder of Pferdewirtschaftsmeister (German Master Horse Trainer & Instructor) & Equestrian Sports NZ Elite Coach, Dressage NZ A Grade Trainer

As an educator Nicolett aims to provide a learning environment which facilitates education for equestrians on a level that may have a deeper impact on how they look after the welfare of their horses. Educational packages are delivered with evidence based research and encourage learners to practice active open-mindedness and critical reflective thinking.

The Posture and Performance of an Equine Athlete Seminar with Andrea Raves

Topics of Education

  • In collaboration with Dr. Sarah Daly
BSc, BVMS (Hons), IVCA (Equine and Canine Chiropractor) Prebbleton Veterinary Hospital

This clinic aims to provide an understanding of performance problems in ridden horses and how to identify early signs of pain. We will introduce the ‘Ethogram’, developed by Dr Sue Dyson, which is a revolutionary tool to determine the presence of musculo-skeletal pain and low grade lameness in ridden horses. From a veterinary prospective we discuss diagnosing subtle signs of movement dysfunction, common lameness injuries and back pain and how to apply principles of Equine Physical Therapy for maintenance and rehabilitation.

  • In collaboration with Dr. Sarah Daly
BSc, BVMS (Hons), IVCA (Equine and Canine Chiropractor) Prebbleton Veterinary Hospital

This clinic will discuss the relationship between equine hoof balance and the horse’s posture. Based on the latest scientific research, we will take a look at hoof function, how and why the hoof changes shape, and how this is linked to normal posture versus an abnormal compensatory posture. Within the context of the whole-body pattern approach, we will propose in theory and practice how to correct and rehabilitate structural imbalances to improve the horse’s physical and emotional soundness.

  • THEORY AND PRACTICE

This practical seminar will bring you close up and personal to the horse’s skeletal / muscular structures and its biomechanics.

You will be able to incorporate this knowledge into the daily handling and riding of your horse to prevent training mistakes by recognizing your horses physical structure.

  • PERFORMANCE AND THERAPY

This Seminar gives you an in-depth understanding of the spine, a critical part of the equine athletes anatomy. Discussions are held around back conformation and common back problems that Nicolett encounters in her every day practice and in her studies from both here and her annual trips to the DIPO in Germany.

As a group you will look further into physiotherapy techniques and training methods that could help you to eliminate, manage or correct potential or exisiting back problems.

  • A PRACTICAL WORKSHOP

Guiding you through the principles for selected myofascial release and mobilisation techniques to…

Increase the movement and flexibility of muscles and joints

Gain awareness for the responses of your horse to your touch and improve physical/mental relaxation

Improve performance and reduce the risk of injury

  • An in-depth presentation for all equine lovers about the intricate link between the horse's musculoskeletal structure and the Scale of Training, a guide to developing a horse's physical and mental abilities to achieve a high level of performance and overall well being. Join us for a day of education in theory and practice, inspiration and a deeper appreciation for the art of training horses across all disciplines.
